Catching up with former Demons in the pros

It is always nice to catch up with former Demons, especially guys who you have had the pleasure of watching and calling from the broadcast booth. As a Shreveport resident, I can see Bossier-Shreveport Battlewings every home game and get to watch Marvin Byrdsong play linebacker for the af2 franchise.

It was a pleasant surprise, however, when I went to the Wings game last night and got to watch former Demon SLC Champion QB Davon Vinson playing for the Arkansas Twisters. He had been starting for a few games while the starter was out and has had good success. He also plays on kickoff coverage and short-yardage situations. Davon understands that if he plays well in spot duty for Arkansas, that could lead to a bigger and better (read: starting) job down the road.

I got to catch up with Davon after the game. He reminded me how much he loved his time at NSU and winning a conference championship (which Byrdsong told me he was mad he never got to do). He also was very pleased to hear that Germayne Edmond seemed to be bringing another strong, athletic quarterback from Texas to the top position at NSU.

With Davon's attitude to his current position and overall athletic ability, do not be surprised if he is starting somewhere next season.
