Sad news about Roymon Malcolm

A car wreck overnight Wednesday claimed the life of former Demon tailback Roymon Malcolm, who played for NSU in 1995.

He was a great player with future Demon QB and now assistant head coach Brad Laird at Ruston High School, helping the Bearcats win the state Class 5A championship and earn a No. 1 national ranking in 1990.

Roymon signed with Auburn but suffered a severe knee injury there. He transferred to NSU and played in eight games his senior season.

Brad reports the funeral will be at 1 o'clock Wednesday at New Hope Baptist Church in Ruston.

Not just a neat coincidence

Consider these storylines from 2008-09 ...

Today - NSU has SLC-best 3 on All-Academic tennis team

April - Demons lead all SLC teams with 3 on basketball All-Academic team

April - Lady Demons share SLC lead with 2 on 10-woman hoops All-Academic team

December - Demon football has SLC-best 6 on All-Academic team

With baseball, track and softball yet to go, I'd say priorities are in order around here!

Updating Coach Peve's profile

The story profiling Demon football coach Bradley Dale Peveto will now run in Wednesday morning's editions of both the Alexandria Town Talk and the Shreveport Times. Town Talk sports editor Randy Benson wrote the piece.

Peveto and athletic director Greg Burke are in Galveston today for the Southland Conference's annual spring meetings. Basketball coaches Mike McConathy and Jennifer Graf will make the trek to the Texas coast tomorrow.
