Former Northwestern State and current Louisiana Swashbucklers kicker Tommy Hebert was recently named the SIFL Player Of TheWeek.
Hebert, who played for the Demons from 2002-2004 and was a member of the '04 Southland Conference championship team, connected on a league-best four field goals and was 6-for-7 on PAT kicks in the Swashbucklers' 60-43 victory over the Austin Turfcats last Monday.
He outdistanced teammate Marcus Wilridge and Acadiana Mudbugs BoBartik and Rudy Johnson in the weekly fan voting on www.southernifl.com, the home site of the Southern Infoor Football League.
For the season, Hebert has made 13 field goals and is second in the SIFL in scoring.
Hebert still holds several school season and career kicking records.
The Opelousas native teams with former Demon Freddie Harrison as a member of the Swashbucklers.

Coach Black gets some pub to the north
Each year, our friend Coach Black (Harris Wilson), the esteemed assistant head coach for all sports at NSU since 1996, expands his huge network of friends.
Since Coach Steve Roberts left Northwestern after the 2001 football season to take the head coaching post at Arkansas State, Coach Black has worked the ASU football camp each June.
A Jonesboro, Ark., TV station did a package on Coach Black. While the comparison to "Radio" doesn't begin to do Coach Black justice, the story itself is very nice. Check the link:

Capital Campaign Kicks Off -- with a little help from NSU Athletics!
On June 12th, Northwestern State University officially launched the 125th Anniversary Capital Campaign at the Campaign Kickoff "Fais Do Do" party, hosted at the Alumni Plaza by the Office of Alumni and Development. A few familiar faces helped excite the crowd, including Director of Athletics Greg Burke, Head Men's Basketball Coach Mike McConathy, Head Football Coach Bradley Dale Peveto, and Athletic Association Select 100 Member and Capital Campaign External Committee Co-Chair John Manno. Nearly 400 supporters attended the event, and pictures from the event can be viewed here.
