When John Hundley hooked up with Thomas Jackson for a 20-yard TD pass (well thrown and nicely caught by a well-defended Jackson) Saturday evening in the Demons' scrimmage, former Louisiana-Lafayette head coach Sam Robertson had a smile on his face.
Hundley is his nephew. John (known to his family as "John Doug") is the son of Doug Hundley, who played for Sam back when ULL was USL in the late 1970s. Also playing for Sam, although not at the same time, was Thomas's father, Thomas Sr., who was a whale of a running back for the Cajuns.
Who, what, where, when, why as it relates to Northwestern State athletics- that's The Daily Demon. What really doesn't fit into our traditional press releases, you'll get here from several members of the NSU athletic department staff. It might be updates on former student-athletes. It may be that somebody called to say hello, or dropped by. It's all about strengthening the special bond that the NSU family shares. NFL updates
Rookie free agent receiver and 2008 SLC Football Student-Athlete of the Year Dudley Guice had a very nice 28-yard reception in the final minute of play last night for Tennessee as the Titans' backups were trying to score in a 30-10 loss at Dallas. Fox Sports announcer Joe Buck was very impressed with what he called a "sensational" catch down the right sideline on a not-so-well thrown pass, so much so that he called two other intended receivers "Guice" in subsequent plays.
Big night tonight for David Pittman, the 4th-year cornerback and 2006 NSU All-American who is trying to lock down a job with the Houston Texans. He's going against his last team, the Saints, tonight in Houston. Pitt made a game-saving interception last week to help his cause.
Assistant basketball coach Mark Slessinger and former basketball staff member Patrick Self returned from Buffalo early this week after visiting Demetrius Bell at Bills' camp. They brought back a nice personally autographed cap for D-Bell's buddy Coach Black.
