Monday night, the Demon Victory Tour rolled into my hometown of Shreveport. Despite a torrential--but much needed--downpour, the turnout was nice and enthusiastic.

The highlight of the program was head coach Bradley Dale Peveto getting Demon fans fired up about, as Peveto calls it, "their" program.

This is the third or fourth time I have heard Coach Peveto address a crowd, and he has always had something interesting and meaningful to say. However, on this evening, something he said really left an impression with me.

Coach Peveto introduced his staff, and had them line up so they could be seen, and acknowledged, by the crowd. When talking about his assistant coaches, Coach Peveto said that some coaches say they have a great staff "under" him. However, Coach Peveto likes to say he has a great staff "surrounding" him.

There is a big difference in the two phrases. Coach Peveto doesn't think of himself as "above" his assistants. He thinks of the entire staff as one unit, working for one goal--to produce a winning team on the field and in the classroom.

It is obvious Coach Peveto likes, and respects, his assistants. It is also obvious his assistants respect, and like, Coach Peveto.

I also like the way Coach Peveto said his staff is made up of good men, good husbands and good fathers. What great representatives of NSU, and what great role models for young men!

Good people, good food, and good football talk. What a great way to start the week!
