Checking in with Chelsea Orton

It was great to see the delightful smile of former Lady Demon soccer graduate assistant coach Chelsea Orton at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex Sunday, even if we had to look 40 feet up to see her.

Orton was the rookie color analyst for the SLC TV live telecast of the 2009 Southland Conference Soccer Championship final won by Southeastern Louisiana 2-0 over Texas State. She and play by play man Doug Anderson worked on a scissor lift raised about 40 feet above the concession stand on the east side of the pitch.

The midfield cameras were mounted on the same platform, providing a great view of the new press box on the west side along with the benches for both teams. The Lady Demon Soccer Complex looked great on TV - across the nation on Fox College Sports as well as throughout the Southland TV network footprint. Former NSU assistant Mike Baker watched in Tennessee.

After leaving NSU, Orton did an internship at the Southland Conference office in metropolitan Dallas as one of the last steps in completing her master's degree in sport administration from Northwestern.

She is working in sales and marketing for AT&T in Irving. She's also an avid runner who has competed across the country.

Chelsea was her own worst critic on her television analyst's debut, but people watching who know soccer thought she was quite good - no surprise to us!
