Celeste comes by

The "First Mom" of Demon football dropped by to say hello Tuesday.

Celeste Waddell, the incredible mother of the late Chris Waddell (see the story on nsudemons.com if you don't know the background), paid a visit to head coach Scott Stoker, athletic director Greg Burke and others in the athletic department around lunchtime as she was traveling back home to Dallas from her hometown of New Orleans.

She said she knew she was back home in the Crescent City as soon as she hit her first pothole. Roads in DFW are a little better, she says.

She pledged to make it back for a home game, perhaps as early as Saturday's season opener. This group of 2007 seniors were classmates with Christopher.

A couple of interesting notes from a woman who was one of the heroes of the Charity Hospital ordeal during Hurricane Katrina (I still have ABC's 20/20 newsmagazine show spotlighting Celeste and her sixth-floor mates saved on my TiVO) ... her home in Dallas is located on a hill. No chance of flooding there ... didn't know this, but she is an avid golfer. She won't golf in the heat of summer, but she does love to play!
