Breakfast was being served in the Demon Alley Tailgating Zone Saturday morning. Almost a dozen RVs were parked and in business, with three more from Henderson State sitting over in the soccer/softball lot reserved for Reddies followers. Of course, many more will be pulling in during the next couple of hours.
One newcomer to the Demon roster was a little amazed Friday afternoon at the day-early influx of the tailgaters. He's a newcomer to the Deep South and was stunned to see people set up and ready to roll by the time the Demons arrived at Turpin Stadium for their Friday afternoon walk-through.
It was an equally stunning sight for those of us last year in the season-opener at Kansas, when we arrived at the stadium at 10 a.m. to set up the radio equipment and case out the joint. Kickoff was the same as tonight, 6 p.m., but there was ZERO, NADA signs of tailgating by Jayhawks fans.
We were told the tailgating there began about three hours before kickoff. When we returned to the stadium about that time, the scouting report was borne out.
Talk about a culture shock. So I guess I can understand what the out-of-state Demon experienced yesterday.
Now, over to the tailgating area to see what they've got cooking ...
... more later today, including hopefully updates from the Bahamas, where the Demon basketball team is in action this weekend.
